The forecast predicted a good day for the ridge and decided to give it a try. After the passing cold front, the wind was supposed to turn 270, with 40km/h, just good for the ridge at Weinheim. Some rain was predicted but not a lot. After take-off had a normal run down to Heidelberg, but on my way back, I saw a thick incoming rain band. Decided to go again south to stay away from the rain, as it seemed more open there. Everyone was landing back at Weinheim, and I was wondering whether my plan was good and how am I going to make it back to the field? I waited at Heidelberg on the ridge for some time and had a look at outlanding options. After some time I managed to transition from ridge lift to a small wave marked by an impounded cloud ("staubewolkung"). Above the clouds, the air was laminar with weak lift, but could climb up to 1200m. After the rain passed, I could fly this small wave back to Weinheim. Back at the field the wind was very weak and the ridge did not seem reliable and I decided to land.
